Pollinator Celebration for Pollinator Month

Pollinator Celebration in Charleston, SC

Patrons of Cynthia Graham Hurd/St. Andrews Library were able to celebrate Pollinator Month in June with engaging activities and programs to learn about bees while learning what they can do to help save them.  The Hurd/St. Andrews Library is part of the Charleston County Public Library system which has programming throughout the system every month of the year!

The Children’s Department at the Hurd/St. Andrews branch used a curated event box prepared by The Bee Cause Project during the monthlong activities which included a bee scavenger hunt, pollinator art projects, pollinator-themed read-alongs, and a display for patrons to learn all the ways they can help native and honey bees in their own backyard.  This was an amazing experience for the library and the community with over 318 participants over the course month of June!

The scavenger hunt was not only active but educational too!  Five bees were hidden in the library with facts about food, water, shelter, and advocacy for bees. Once they found all the bees and wrote one thing, they could do to help save the bees, they were given a Bee Cause Tattoo, and their answers were added to the window display.  What a great way to engage the community and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards!
